Senior Center
 |
The Senior Program is very
important to many of the senior citizens of the community. Each
Monday, Wednesday and Friday, employees of the Senior Program
pick up seniors for the day’s activities. Activities at the
Senior Center will include crafts and games, devotions, holiday
celebrations, and opportunity to socialize. Twice a month, the
seniors have “Town Day,” when they’re taken into town to pick up
prescriptions and get what they need at stores like Wal-Mart.
Occasionally the seniors go on fun activity outings such
as bowling. Each day that the Senior Program takes place, the
seniors are served breakfast, lunch and a snack, and they stop
at the store and the post office on the way home. A total of 41
seniors are enrolled in the program, and average attendance for
the Senior Program is around sixteen. |
| Once a month, the
Settlement’s Senior Center gives out the USDA commodities for
seniors. Boxes are filled with at least nineteen different food items,
including juice, powdered milk, vegetables, fruit, cheese, and
meat. To participate in this program, seniors must
be at least sixty years old and must meet income guidelines.
The USDA provides food for
seventy-two seniors each month. |

| Another service provided to
the senior citizens in our community is homemaker service.
Through the Bell County Senior Center, ten to twelve seniors in
the area receive two hours a week of minor cleaning. |
